Job Description Summary:

Directs faculty communication from the Teaching and Learning Excellence Division (TLED), including planning and implementing of communication strategies, sharing timely and relevant information to faculty and stakeholders, and collaborating with college partners to ensure transparency, cohesion and engagement that supports teaching and learning.

Description of Duties and Tasks​

1) Builds talent and a sense of belonging for staff through support, coaching, training and setting expectations. Adheres to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws. Recommends personnel actions for positions supervised. Ensures effective organizational structure, including allocation of staff, funding, and formulation of decision-making groups and committees.
2) Leads development and continual improvement of engagement and communications strategies between instructional support services, faculty and related stakeholders.

3) Maintains effective internal and external communication processes that provide stakeholders with clear, timely, and relevant information. Maintains oversight of the TLED website and social media channels and works with college areas to align information for faculty and other stakeholders.
3) Develops and maintains regular communication to inform current faculty of relevant news and information supporting the college's mission and goals through relevant communication platforms (i.e. email, social media, print).
4) Manages and executes communication projects that support teaching and learning, through consultations, concept development, storytelling, graphic design, and approaches to end-user needs. Oversees production of printed, video, audio and digital materials with on-campus partners and off-campus vendors.
5) Develops guidelines and direct implementation of writing, editing, and distribution of teaching and learning information on services, programs, and procedures to communicate with faculty. Establishes guidelines for the TLED brand and maintains brand integrity across all communications print and web.
6) Ensures all communications and promotions are vetted and edited for accuracy and transparency with a focus on clarity, comprehension, use of language, flow, consistency and medium. Serves as principal instructional services writer and/or editor of information as needed by instructional and  faculty leadership.
7) Analyzes, evaluates, and makes recommendations about communication tools and processes to ensure ongoing improvements and innovations.
8) Collaborates with college stakeholders such as college marketing, student communication, instructional support services leadership, and faculty departments for consistent messaging and cohesion.
9) Maintains records and evaluation data on faculty communication functions and services, and reports appropriate information to supervisor and academic leadership.

10) Adheres to compliance requirements of the position.  Works with appropriate departments to ensure office services, resources, and technologies are accessible. Works with appropriate departments to ensure licensing and copyright requirements for resources are met. 

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of technical writing and editing for print and web.

  • Working knowledge of editorial style guides.

  • Knowledge of instructional support programs relevant to a higher education setting.

  • Familiarity with mass email communication systems.

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and use. 

  • Familiarity with web development tools and use. 

  • Understanding of the community college philosophy and mission.

Technology Skills

  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.

  • Proficient in the use of email communications tools.

  • Proficient use of social media and communication applications.

Required Work Experience
* Three years related work experience.

Preferred Work Experience

* Five years work experience in communications, preferably in higher education.

Required Education
* Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Education
* Bachelor's degree or higher in communications or related fields.

Physical Requirements
* Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
* Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
* Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.

Safety

* Supervise safe operation of the unit. Facilitate safety inspections. Take reasonable and prudent actions to eliminate identified hazards. Ensure employees receive appropriate safety training and foster a workplace safety culture.

Salary Range

$71,744 - $89,680
