Job Profile Summary

Under limited direction, this position will assist the Associate Vice President of Public Relations and Communication in the implementation of the strategies developed by the Marketing and Strategic Communications department. These approaches will be multi-faceted communications programs designed to build and strengthen the College’s role and reputation as a leader and authoritative voice in fields that generate enrollment and other identified metrics of success. Provides oversight and guidance in developing the overall messaging and positioning that is external facing for surrounding communities and marketing campaigns. Working alongside peers, oversees guidelines and policies set for messaging, and provide quality control for communications programs. Supports the management of all internal and external communication.

  

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Six years of public relations or media experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily - 10%: Assists the Associate Vice President of Public Relations and Communication in the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan to support the organization's mission, goals and objectives.
  • Daily - 10%: Builds and fosters collaborative relationships with other departments within the organization to stay informed and abreast of new initiatives, programs, grants, etc.
  • Daily - 10%: Develops communications materials and programs to support the promotion and publicity of activities to internal and external audiences. Facilitates media guide with spokesperson bios and photos that link to the web site.
  • Other - 10%: Writes and provides review for speaking points, speeches and Op-Eds. Establishes production timetable, reviews communication materials, responds to media inquiries, oversees distribution of materials to media before, during and after the event. Encourages media participation, promotes spokespeople, and arranges media interviews.
  • Other - 10%: Manages and oversees departmental system for maintaining and archiving press clippings. Prepares and evaluates monthly summary reports for all communications, events, and social media efforts. Proofreads as necessary. Builds relationships with professional counterparts in other professional organizations, advocacy organizations and other community organizations through organizational initiatives and jointly-sponsored communication campaigns and programs.
  • Other - 10%: Researches and participates in the production of a full range of materials to effectively support the Broward College Marketing and Strategic Communications goals. Composes, edits and distributes news releases, event stories, publications copy including but not limited to brochures, flyers, posters and photos/multimedia.
  • Other - 5%: Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination and discipline, setting performance standards and evaluating staff, and staff development.
  • Other - 5%: Pitches stories for distribution/publication. Contributes stories and photos to website and publications.
  • Other - 5%: Assists in responding to requests for information from the media. Follows up with media and facilitates interviews and photo shoots.
  • Other - 5%: Oversees media and social media to track results from news releases and marketing efforts.
  • Other - 5%: Attends College and Foundation events and works with the photographer to get story, photos and cut lines.
  • Other - 5%: Prepares, reviews and coordinates public relations materials for competition entries.
  • Other - 5%: Assists with representing Broward College Marketing and Strategic Communication department on various community committees and participates in organizing joint events.
  • Other - 5%: Performs other related duties as assigned.
