JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Department of Humanities and Arts (HUA) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks to appoint a Visiting Assistant Professor in music starting in August 2023. We seek a music scholar and practitioner whose work engages at the intersection of music, technology, and science.

The expertise of candidates could be broad and could include composition, performance, sound design, interactive programming, sonification, algorithms, and audio production. We welcome someone who will inspire our students and community in an interdisciplinary environment populated by courses, projects, musical practice, and other experimental vehicles. These efforts will involve teaching and rethinking existing courses (for example, Fundamentals of Music) and adding new ones. We see the unique benefits of scholar-practitioners that can help students make connections between the classroom to the world beyond. Successful candidates will thus be active in art-making practices that could include composition, production, and performance. In addition to being an excellent teacher and accomplished scholar, we seek someone that will contribute to an evolving culture of diversity and inclusion at WPI.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Job responsibilities:

teach music courses, seminars / practicums as assigned
design and revise the music curriculum in collaboration with music faculty colleagues
advise student projects
participate in initiatives conducted by the Humanities and Arts Department and the University
Qualifications:

Ph.D. or D.M.A. in Music is preferred; terminal degree in a relevant field considered
Successful classroom teaching at the university level
History of professional accomplishments in the form of publications and / or creative work.
