Central Arizona College is looking for an Interim Internal Academic Dean for the Arts and Sciences. This is a temporary position, expected for Summer and Fall 2023. It is an opportunity for an internal candidate with progressive community college teaching and academic leadership to take on the position of Academic Dean of Arts and Sciences. While this position covers a large area of responsibility, the initial assigned areas of oversight may vary based on the successful candidate’s academic knowledge and experience. We are seeking a candidate who will first and foremost contribute to creating a world class learning environment and make CAC a great place to work.

The Academic Dean will be responsible for district-wide student-centered leadership. They will provide supervision, guidance and direction for programming, courses, services, faculty, and staff in assigned cluster of divisions, departments and activities.



Responsibilities include the following:

Direct, develop, implement, and evaluate academic and related programs.

Provide leadership for the development and assessment of new curriculum and programs to meet the needs of students, the college, and the community.

Promote student retention and success in all areas of oversight, including retention and success of underserved students, working with faculty and staff to infuse best practices into all aspects of daily work.

Actively participate, develop and/or lead the development of partnerships with relevant entities including, but not limited to other colleges and community partners.

Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the college. Contribute to creating a positive college culture.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide leadership and maintain accountability for assigned departments or divisions.
Supervise and evaluate faculty, staff, class schedules, budgets and other operational work related to academic courses and programs.
Manage and evaluate academic programs, in collaboration with Division Chairs. Enhance a culture of inquiry in which faculty and staff use thoughtful interpretation of assessment information to improve teaching and learning. Monitor program standards, ensure compliance with college policies and procedures, external accrediting requirements and national licensures where appropriate; recommend and guide modifications as required.
Promote and support professional development of district faculty and staff. Provide guidance and resources for student-centered initiatives.
Develop and implement strategies that support student retention and success.
Serve as liaison with other community college, university and community partners and representatives and outside agencies to determine needs for existing and additional programs; Provide leadership for faculty in the development of programming that meets changing needs.
Assist in the development of marketing strategies leading to program recognition and growth.
Manage and direct the short and long-range strategic planning of divisions in support of college goals and objectives.
Develop and implement budget; manage approved budgets; Oversee monitoring of equipment/inventories for multiple programs.
Establish operating procedures for the division and maintain liaison with other divisions and departments of the college on matters relating to academic programs, physical assets, and facilities.
Participate in internal and external professional activities. Develop and participate in external resource development.
Potentially oversee development and evaluation of new academic programs and services that meet the needs of students and the community.
SUBSIDIARY FUNCTIONS
Perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position to include serving on Executive Council, participating in committee assignments, working as a team member with other Academic Deans.


Qualifications
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Vice President of Academics

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: First Line Supervisor

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of progressively responsible applicable experience in a higher education setting.

SPECIAL POSITION CONDITIONS: County-wide travel will be required.

Knowledge of instructional program development, planning, evaluation, and review with the ability to produce new, imaginative, or innovative solutions different from traditional approaches.
Knowledge of state-of-the-art teaching and learning techniques, including technologies for teaching and learning, and those used widely at the college.
