Job Profile Summary

Under limited supervision, this position oversees and manages the education portion of the Adult Basic Education program. Responsible for developing and teaching concurrent & contextual workforce and basic skills to adult learners. Provide instruction in computational and applied mathematics, reading comprehension and English grammar and writing skills, and integrate the adult basic education curriculum with occupational skills training based on a single set of learning objectives. Instructor will provide leadership in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and integration of technology.

  

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Five years of relevant experience teaching and/or tutoring adults related skills such as reading, writing, language arts, math, science, social studies, digital literacy, career and education planning, and test-taking skills.
  • Supervisory or lead experience
  • Experience with curriculum development

Minimum Certification/Licenses:

  • Current State of Florida Teacher’s Certificate from a Florida School District is preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Other: As scheduled - 25%: Oversees and manages the education portion of the Adult Basic Education program.  Facilitates instruction and teaches in Adult Education courses as assigned.
  • Other: As scheduled - 10%: Manages in the development and revision of curriculum for Adult Education courses. Collaborates with technical instructors to identify basic skills needed for Adult Education students to master workforce skills covered in Individualized Educational Training (IET) programs.
  • Other: As scheduled - 10%: Plans lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students. Implements a variety of instructional delivery methods, that include group or individualized instruction as well as computer programs that help students make learning gains.
  • Other: As scheduled - 10%: Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination and discipline, setting performance standards and evaluating staff, and staff development.
  • Other: As scheduled - 5%: Works in cooperation with Senior Director to develop and manage department budget in the area of ordering teaching supplies and equipment in preparation for classes.
  • Other: As scheduled - 5%: Researches and records student attendance and progress throughout the courses. Reports class outcomes and student evaluations to Senior Director.
  • Other: As scheduled - 5%: Coordinates and conducts ongoing needs assessments
  • Other: As scheduled - 5%: Coordinates, maintains, and submits in a timely manner accurate records, inventory, schedules, textbook orders, program manuals, grades, course syllabi, course evaluation summaries and requests for information or other reports.
  • Other: As scheduled - 5%: Works in coordination with the Senior Director in the development, evaluation and revision of curricula and course outlines and new program development.
  • Other: As scheduled - 5%: Works collaboratively with the department Senior Director in the development of department goals and objectives in accordance with established college policies and procedures to support college-side strategic goals.
  • Other: As scheduled - 5%: Participates in the development, implementation and interpretation of departmental policies and procedures when appropriate.
  • Other: As scheduled - 5%: Executes the operational plan of the area and provides direction to ensure alignment with division’s and College’s mission and vision.
