The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for fall 2023 and/or spring 2024 semester Instructor, Lecturer or Senior Lecturer positions. These are part-time, temporary, non-benefited positions and may continue semester-by-semester, dependent upon performance, department need, funding, and student enrollment.

An earned MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field is required; a PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field is preferred. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. The ideal candidates will have prior teaching experience at the university or college level and engineering experience in industry or government. Expectations will include teaching traditional undergraduate courses in mechanical or aerospace engineering.

The anticipated start date is August 2023 for the fall semester and January 2024 for the spring semester. The successful applicants are not required to be physically located at the school. This position can be filled remotely with the courses being taught 100% online and asynchronous or on our campus with the courses being taught in either a hybrid or fully in-person delivery mode.

The Mechanical Engineering Department takes pride in its excellent educational program. Engineering fundamentals and design are emphasized throughout the undergraduate curriculum. Supported by the Center of Excellence for Advanced Multidisciplinary Projects (CAMP), students compete in several ASME and SAE sponsored national/international competitions. The department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering, and currently is home to about 600 undergraduate and 35 graduate students.
