Job Summary
The Bush lab is seeking to hire a Research Technician interested in the evolutionary ecology of bird-parasite systems. Projects in our lab focus on host specificity, speciation, anti-parasite adaptations of birds, adaptive radiation of parasites, and reciprocal selective effects between birds and their parasites. We are deeply interested in the relevance of basic research to conservation efforts. Current research projects include long-term field projects and lab-based projects involving birds and their parasites.
Responsibilities
Tasks and responsibilities associated with this position include: digitization of data associated with archival parasite specimens, identification of parasite specimens, handling and monitoring of birds associated with field and experimental studies, and data management and analysis. The technician will work directly with the PI, and will receive training and mentorship in all job responsibilities and associated techniques. This position is particularly well-suited to individuals with goals to continue their scientific education graduate school and with deep interest in host-parasite interactions. The ideal candidate has had prior coursework &/or laboratory experience in ecology, evolution, entomology, parasitology, or ornithology and has some experience working with live animals.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.
