Position Summary

Under direct supervision, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Reporting to the Administrative Assistant III, the Administrative Assistant II position provides the initial contact services to all callers into the three main CSN campuses. The Administrative Assistant II position provides immediate resolution to callers and walk-up questions and/or concerns. This position provides information in all CSN departments up to, but not limited to Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, Testing, Advising & Coaching, Counseling, Recruitment, Cashier’s Office, and Veterans Affairs. By providing customer service and care, the CSN Switchboard/Information Desks assist in securing enrollment, positive student engagement, and supporting the life cycle and retention of CSN students. This position also provides support for faculty and staff in resolving issues that prevent effective student engagement. This position provides support to the Administrative Assistant III by providing supervisory coverage at the three main CSN campuses and call statistics reporting when the Administrative Assistant III is absent. This position also serves as the initial contact for AAI pertaining to questions, issues, concerns or regarding their daily job functions. This position supports the mission and vision of CSN in every aspect of service and care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to demonstrate customer service and care within a higher education organization.

  • Knowledge of computer, technology, and phone systems.

  • Experience interpreting FERPA policies, regulations, and procedures.

  • Familiar with Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) and College policies and regulations.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.

  • Experience working effectively with students, faculty, and staff to develop, maintain, and enhance the customer service and care experience.

  • Knowledge of CSNs enrollment process, the CSN website, Greymatter and the PeopleSoft system.

  • Knowledge of various CSN department policies and procedures up to but not limited to Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, Testing, Advising & Coaching, Counseling, Recruitment, Cashier’s Office, and Veterans Affairs.

  • Knowledge of CSN semester events, campus locations, and information and/or where to gain the knowledge.

  • Experience demonstrating ability as a self-starter capable of showing initiative and resourcefulness in completing work assignments and directives.

  • Evidence of cultural sensitivity and competence required for effectively engaging constituents of different cultural backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and office phone operations.

  • Experience handling escalated situations with difficult callers and customers.

Starting Salary

Grade 25, Step 1 $ 34,305.84

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
