Job Description

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Office of Information Technology seeks a Network Security Engineer II who performs network security functions on the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH) network including design, installation, troubleshooting, and provide maintenance of the information security infrastructure of the network.



Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Implement and maintain security information systems necessary to monitor and analyze fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security of a large-scale LAN/WAN infrastructure.
Identifying current and emerging technology issues including security trends, vulnerabilities, and threats.
Conducting proactive research to analyze security weaknesses and recommend appropriate strategies.
Analyze and troubleshoot network boundary rulesets.
Provide technical assistance and support to engineers and technicians in trouble shooting network and server problems.
Review existing and new security solutions to better protect the organization.
Develop or enhance documentation related to network security, but not limited to, system design, standard operating procedures, knowledge base.
Participate in large projects and/or complex network changes through implementation of assigned tasks.
Participate in on-call support rotation and may act as a point of escalation for lower level technicians.


Additional Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

TCP/IP knowledge and basic knowledge of routing, switching and troubleshooting.
Experience with firewall management. Checkpoint Firewalls/VPN preferred.
Experience with IDS/IPS devices Snort/Nessus, Vulnerability Scanners.
Familiarity with network technologies such as DHCP, DNS, Software Defined Networking (SDN), Cloud Technology, Edge Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and VoIP.
Experience with MS Server OS, Linux OS (Redhat), Cisco IOS/IOS-XE/NX-OS.
Experience with SIEM devices: IBM Qradar preferred.
Understanding of advanced threat detection in an enterprise environment.
Understanding of accepted security practices, troubleshooting issues, attack vectors and customer support
Understanding of wireless technologies and security.
Understanding of authentication services and directory services such as Active Directory, RADIUS, and LDAP.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to provide required documentation and to interact with department heads, staff, users, vendors and consultants.
Work requires highly developed analytical skills and the ability to solve complex technical problems using a methodical systematic approach.


Physical Requirements:

Able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
Lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.




Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree.
Four year's experience in the area of Network & Information Security.
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
Current security certifications.
Seven plus years of experience.
