Salary Range: $28,710 - $38,830 

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm 

Employment Duration: Full-time 

FLSA Status: Nonexempt 

Summary

The Wangler lab is engaged in a number of clinical research studies for patients with rare diseases and undiagnosed conditions.  Research interests include peroxisomal disease, autism and inclusion of under-represented minorities in genomic medicine. The lab is seeking for a motivated individual to engage in these human genetics research.  The technician would aid clinical study coordinators, would be responsible for DNA and plasma samples already collected, and would learn and use software for analysis of patient samples. The technician will work on exciting new genomic research projects. 

Job Duties

  • Uses standard methods to quantify and determine the quality of the DNA found in buccal, saliva, and blood samples. 
  • Performs DNA sequencing analysis using software and tools developed by the lab and team, this include MARRVEL (www.MARRVEL.org).  
  • Analyzes clinical and metabolic datasets from patients with rare disease.
  • Assists the study coordinator to contact and schedule human subjects for two large NIH funded human genetic studies.
  • Assists with data gathering for journal publications.
  • Works in the Wangler laboratory alongside Dr Wangler, a study coordinator, lab manager, lab technicians, post-docs and graduate students.  
  • Participates in departmental meetings related to projects such as the Community Texome project which aims to provide genomic medicine services to under-represented minorities and healthcare underserved. 
  • Participates in a rare disease program for peroxisomal disorders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.
