Aligned with the College's new strategic plan, Saint Mary's College of California announces a search for the founding Director of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The Program Director will serve as the inaugural leader of the BSN program. They will oversee the development of curriculum, accreditation, and hiring of faculty and support staff, with a goal program launch date of Fall 2024.

This is a full-time twelve-month nursing faculty position with delegated administrative release time. Faculty serving in this role also assume the role of standing nursing faculty related to teaching, scholarship, professional development and service. Academic rank will be assigned dependent upon credentials and experience. The Director will be eligible to apply for tenure to the College upon successful program launch.

Illustrative Responsibilities:

• Provide guidance and oversight through the initial and ongoing accreditation process as the program prepares to enroll its first cohort of students. Communicate with the California Board of Registered Nursing and ensure that the program meets requirements and standards for approval and accreditation.
• Assure excellence in the BSN nursing program, including quality of the academic program curriculum. Ensure curriculum and courses are current, relevant, and effective in meeting program learning outcomes. Engage in ongoing programmatic assessment to ensure program quality and adherence to regulatory requirements and specialty accreditation standards, as applicable.
• Oversee the recruitment, retention, mentorship and management of qualified core and adjunct faculty. Conduct regular evaluations of faculty instruction and provide professional development support as necessary. Build a diverse and inclusive faculty that reflects SMC's student body and is committed to improving access to higher education for underrepresented students.
• Develop clinical affiliation agreements. (Preliminary interest has already been expressed.)
• Lead, in collaboration with program staff, the implementation and administration of operations of the BSN program, including semester planning, course scheduling and communication with current and prospective students. In concert with the Faculty Senate, develop and implement necessary policies and procedures that accommodate both the SMC Core Curriculum and nursing requirements.
• Collaborate with faculty in the School of Science and across the College to ensure that pre-nursing courses are relevant and appropriate to prepare students for success in the BSN program and beyond.
• Collaborate with Admissions and Enrollment Management to support the recruitment of Pre-nursing students to the College and oversee the internal admissions process into the BSN program.
• Support student progression and retention, including student four-year and two-year plans, with particular attention to equity and the success of historically excluded groups. Oversee and serve as an academic advisor for undergraduate students.
• Upon program launch, teach courses in one of the five specialization areas (Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Mental Health, and Medical-Surgical).
• Be informed and inspired by the tenets of Catholic, Lasallian, and Liberal Arts education at the heart of the Saint Mary's College Mission, and the value they bring to the acquisition of professional knowledge and nursing skills. Lead a nursing program through an equity lens that develops critical thinking, communication, professional skills, and cultural humility in our graduates to prepare them for professional practice or pursuit of higher degrees and credentials.

The salary range for this position is $125,000.00 - $160,000.00 with additional compensation for administrative duties commensurate with experience.

This position reports to the Executive Vice President and Provost and is part of the Provost's Council. Administrative support and an Advisory Board will be available to support the Director.

Qualifications:

• Master's of Science in Nursing; Earned doctorate (PhD, DNS, DNP, EdD) preferred.
• California licensure as a Registered Nurse or commensurate licensure in another state. Professional nursing experience.
• Academic and clinical experience in nursing education. Four years teaching at the Baccalaureate level preferred. Experience navigating nursing education in a liberal arts environment would be particularly beneficial.
• Record of administrative leadership.
• Demonstrated record of new program/and or course development
• Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
• Sophisticated understanding of contemporary issues and challenges in nursing and population health education
• Experience working successfully with diverse populations and effectively building a diverse and inclusive community
