Performs a variety of duties involving general facilities maintenance. Performs routine maintenance and repair to facilities under minimal supervision in areas such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, paint, carpentry and event set up. 

Duties:

  • Performs maintenance duties such as basic plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning ,and general maintenance of mechanical equipment.  
  • Cleans the work area.
  • Identifies emergency repairs beyond his/her skill level in order to summon on-call assistance using defined procedures.
  • Performs minor equipment repair.
  • Completes required forms and logs.
  • Performs tasks using small hand tools and power equipment.
  • Keeps track of material used and completes order forms for restocking.
  • Occasionally works with other departments to accomplish large projects.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

SPECIAL NOTE: This position is off of regular working hours, resulting in a higher rate of pay. If hired on this evening shift, should applicant want to change off of the evening shift and onto the day shift, their rate of pay would decrease to the regular rate of pay for a day shift General Maintenance Specialist. 

SCHEDULE NOTE: For onboarding and training purposes, for up to the first 6 weeks of employment the work shift will be the following. Upon completion of the training period the work schedule will transition to evening shift. 

  • Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm

  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
  • Ability to update written records, including computerized records

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date

Working Conditions:

  • Physical: Climbing ladders, working on rooftops, working at heights.  Shoveling snow from doorways and sidewalks.  Lifting and carrying loads up to 80 lbs.  Prolonged standing and walking.  Working with insulation such as fiberglass and other irritants. . Climbing stairs, including carrying while climbing.  Excessive stooping and bending.  Manual dexterity.
  • Environmental: Exposure to hazardous chemicals associated with mechanical maintenance.  Exposure to strong odors.  Exposure to disagreeable tasks or conditions.  Exposure to extreme heat and cold, working outside.  Working in very tight areas/cramped enclosures.  Working in confined spaces. Work may involve night, weekend, shift or overtime work.  May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures. May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
