Technician, Make It Center IT/AV

Job Description Summary:

To provide technical support and multimedia equipment support/installation/maintenance in the Make It Center. The person in this position will consult and collaborate with Make It Center staff to ensure a seamless and engaging experience for all guests in which the IT/AV equipment is functional and well-maintained. They will also help with the training of Make It Center staff to ensure basic competency in utilizing and supporting guest use of technology and equipment in the Make It Center.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

  • Provides technical support and regular maintenance of the technology and IT/AV equipment in the Make It Center including hardware and software applications.

  • Supports the use of robotics, holograms, interactive touchscreen displays, and VR programs and equipment.

  • Documents self-help procedures, hardware and software installation and setup procedures, trouble-shooting resources, and lists of software and hardware used within the Make It Center.

  • Breaks down and sets up computers, IT/AV equipment, and related technologies in the space, including for special events and ongoing programs.

  • Assists with the training and coaching of Make It Center staff to ensure basic competency in utilizing and supporting guest use of technology and equipment in the Make It Center.

  • Answers inquiries, provides information, and resolves or escalates problems or concerns related to IT/AV, guest experience, services, and equipment within the MIC.

  • Test, support, and provide feedback about user experience as related to supplies, technology and equipment, and products in the MIC.

  • Provide support and front line customer service for visitors to the MIC and community or college events designed to promote the MIC.

  • Assist staff and guests of the MIC in navigating experiences, using equipment, and connecting to resources.

  • Participates in special projects as needed.

  • Uphold college policies and procedures related to MIC operation, programs, and service delivery.

Knowledge

  • The capabilities and installation of computer hardware, software, and operating systems.

  • Use, maintenance, and troubleshooting processes for hardware, software, multimedia, and peripheral equipment.

  • Demonstrated delivery of excellent customer-service.

Skills 

  • Maintaining an established work schedule, with possible evenings and weekends for specific events.

  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Operating and maintaining computer, multimedia, and peripheral equipment safely and competently.

Technology Skills 

  • Use a variety of operating systems (i.e. Windows, MacOS, etc.), spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and presentation software.

  • Provide technical support for general IT/AV equipment including desktop and multimedia systems

Other Preferred Skills 

  • Experience with Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, video conferencing, and IT/AV equipment.

  • Basic programming (including C/C++ and Python) 

Required Work Experience

  • One year of related work experience.

Preferred Work Experience

  • Experience facilitating programs and events intended for ages 16-24

  • Bilingual - Spanish speaking. 

Required Education

  • High school diploma or educational equivalent.

Physical Requirements

  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, and at times subject to stooping, crawling, and climbing.

  • May need to lift heavy objects of up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with proper tools and assistance.

  • Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behaviors. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

Salary Range

$41,600 - $46,949
