CSN Libraries provides a variety of library services to CSN students, faculty, staff and the general public. Our mission is student success.
Position Description: A successful student employee provides excellent customer service to library users at the circulation desk. Checks library materials in and out to library users using automated library information systems. Shelves library materials multiple times a day, performs shelf-reading and dusting of assigned sections as scheduled. Issues new and replacement library cards to patrons. Constantly interacts in person and over the telephone with other students, staff, faculty and the general public. Performs telephone receptionist duties by assisting the caller and/or transferring calls to the appropriate department. Performs use of general office equipment and/or assists users in the use of general office equipment. Performs basic automated searches for library users and assists users in locating material on library shelves. Assists students with printing and/ or various computer related issues. Assists in daily cleaning and dusting.
Work Experience in our Department supports the following Degree/Certificate Programs:
Library work may support the following majors: Communication, English, Sociology and Business Administration.
Computer experience required. Ability to alphabetize with accuracy and speed, ability to push heavy book carts up to but not to limited to 50 pounds, ability to bend, stoop, stand, and/or sit for long periods of time required. Dependability and punctuality is a must.
Customer service skills preferred. Ability to interact and communicate well with others in person and over the telephone, ability to deal with difficult situations with tact and courtesy preferred. Basic troubleshooting skills also preferred.
