Responsibilities
Asst/Assoc Director of the Advising Office is a full-time, 12 month exempt position, reporting to theDirector of Academic Advising. The purpose of this position is to support undergraduate students in navigating College processes related to student retention, academic success, and timely degree progress.It serves the Advising Office (TAO) by providing a consistent and reliable source of academic advising expertise in the office during regular business hours and the College's student-centered Lasallian mission by adding a student-focused staff person to the academic advising team. The Asst/AssocDirector will provide strategic thinking and student support for undergraduate advising and retention by providing frontline academic advising services for students: responding to questions or challenges from students and advisors, problem-solving, coordinating communication among campus offices and departments such as Student Success, the Registrar, Admissions, Student Life, and the undergraduate schools and Core programs. They will also manage a complex system of academic advising data using GaelXpress, Colleague, SLATE, Canvas, Curriculog/College Catalog, and PowerBI, in addition to collaborating with other offices and programs on new student onboarding, FYAC, transfer advising, graduation, readmission, and assessment.

1. Strategic planning and leadership.

The Asst/Assoc Director will work closely with the Director and AcademicSuccess Office staff on advising programming, training and professional development, and plan strategically using enrollment and assessment data.
Serve as an ex-officio member of the Committee on UndergraduateAcademic Advising and Student Success, and may represent TAO on other college committees and working groups.
Offer proficiency and expertise to the office in Colleague, GXP 2.0,Retention Alert, PowerBI, and SLATE.

2. Onboarding and enrollment.? Liaison with Admissions, Registrar, Business Office, and Financial Aid to resolve holds and other obstacles to student enrollment.
Facilitate placement (language, math, writing).
Support Admissions with previous credit (AP/transfer) evaluation during onboarding.
Serve on summer pre-enrollment team (registering students, preparing information, and facilitating change requests and answering questions)

3. The Asst/Assoc Director supports student direct service in navigating processes related to course scheduling, transfer credit, academic exploration and success, and progress toward degree completion.
Serve as interim advisor for readmitted students.
Facilitate re-entry for students disqualified and on leaves of absence.
Provide specialized expertise and advising support for student veterans, international, athletes, etc.
Coordinate student outreach campaigns (add/drop, midterms, post-registration, enrollment status, graduation eligibility).
Support advisors troubleshooting complex advising scenarios.

4. Training on Advising and Student Planning
Produce accessible advising materials for students & advisors: AdvisorToolkit, training workshops, videos/handouts/tutorials.
Plan workshops and ongoing professional development for advisors and students by target groups or cohorts.

5. Communication
Support faculty communication and engagement around events, announcements, and information sharing.
Maintain and update advising resources such as four-year and transfer academic planning templates, First-year advising cohort syllabi and resources, and resources for major/minor programs (partnering with other departments to provide support).
Update communications shared through Canvas and the webpage.

6. Professional Development
Attend training and workshops on-campus or externally, which are required or recommended for frontline staff interacting with students as a supervisor and in office reception.
Explore opportunities for personal and professional growth, such as serving on committees or participating in training and experiences that fall outside this position but may build related competencies and skills, or a broader range of experience and cross-training needed to pursue future opportunities.

Qualifications:

Education: REQUIRED: BA/BA PREFERRED: MA/MS

Experience: (years required and applicable field of experience): 4

Skills/Abilities: (e.g. computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures, technical): Strong critical thinking skills, detail-oriented, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, understanding of advising and/or counseling approaches in higher education--either by education or experience, ability to navigate and learn complex systems independently, interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, excellent written and oral communication skills. Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
