Position Overview
Dr. Jayoung Kim’s laboratory is seeking a research assistant to support various research projects relating to gene therapy. The assistant will be responsible for routine material synthesis, characterization, cell culture, and small animal experiments through participating in independent gene therapy research, both individual and collaborative. The research assistant will also support daily lab matters, including inventory tracking, supplies ordering, and meeting scheduling. The assistant is expected to be a fully participating lab member who will both contribute to the group by attending lab meetings and engaging with other lab members, and have access to mentorship toward their professional goals

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and 1 year experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of scientific research techniques, methods and procedures.
Ability to work effectively with fellow researchers, staff members, faculty, supervisors and students.
Academic writing skills
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, material science, pharmaceutical sciences or in a related field. Experience with any of the following instruments/techniques is preferred: NGS, machine learning, material characterization (electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy), animal survival surgery.

Job Duties
o
Perform technical procedures involved in execution of experiments , material synthesis
o
Perform technical procedures involved in execution of experiments , characterization.
o
Perform technical procedures involved in execution of experiments including animal care / handling.
o
Execute experiments independently, collect data and keep records of experiments, and keep up-to-date with the most recent literature in the field of study.
o
Operates specialized scientific equipment.
o
Write manuscripts and prepare materials for scientific presentations inside and outside.
