Summary
The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of Michigan seeks a highly motivated and computationally skilled individual to direct bioinformatics analysis of high-dimensional microbiome and molecular datasets, derived from clinical studies of asthma and COPD. The goal of these studies is to understand microbiome influences on airway disease pathogenesis and outcomes. The selected candidate will be responsible for processing and analysis of high-dimensional data such as microbiome sequence data and application of multi-omic analysis tools such as integration of transcriptomic and metabolomic data. The hired individual will also support maintenance of data storage and HPC usage, and support training of other researchers and students in laboratory collaborations.

Responsibilities*
Analyze microbial metagenomic data generated from human airway or gut samples.
Perform integrated analyses of the above with clinical, immunologic, and/or other `omic data such as transcriptomic, metabolomic or epigenomic.
Apply statistical learning or systems biology methods as applicable.
Assess the literature regularly to determine applicable novel methods.
Prepare summaries of results (visual and written) suitable for publication (methods, computing code, figures, data interpretation). Co-authorship anticipated.
Educate and guide PIs, other researcher staff and students on bioinformatic methods for a range of data types.
Assist PI with determining resources for data management and deposition
Required Qualifications*
Bioinfo-Comput Biologist Intermediate

Master's or Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science with at least 2 -3 years experience
Experience with R and/or Python and performing computational modeling.
Bioinfo-Comput Biologist Associate

Bachelor degree /two domains characteristic of bioinformatics, including at least one biological/biomedical/clinical science and one quantitative/informatics/computing science, with aptitude for others.
Desired Qualifications*
Bioinfo-Comput Biologist Intermediate and Associate

Familiarity with analysis of human microbiome sequence data (16S rRNA, metagenomics) and/or multi-omics data (e.g. transcriptomics or metabolomic).
Capacity to learn and apply new tools with appropriate knowledge foundation.
Ability to help maintain data storage and usage of high-performance computing resources provided at University of Michigan
Excellent organizational and time management, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, in hybrid settings.
