Position Summary:

Duties:
Represent Mammalogy department in museum outreach events.Assistance with ongoing research projects and proposal preparation.DNA extraction, PCR, sample preparation, data entry, and molecular lab management.Mammal voucher specimen preparation, data entry into relational database, and miscellaneous curatorial tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Demonstrable experience in (1) DNA extraction, amplification, and sequence editing and analysis using software such as Sequencher or Geneious, (2) mammal or bird voucher specimen preparation and associated curatorial duties, (3) literature research and review, and (4) engaging the public in scientific outreach.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
At least 1 year of experience working in a museum collection preparing voucher specimens, entering data both manually and digitally, working with relational databases, and performing other functions related to the curation and use of a research collection; 6 months experience in a molecular lab performing DNA extraction and amplification, sample preparation for outsourced sequencing, and basic lab-management duties; experience researching the scientific literature and preparing concise written summaries of findings.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field and at least 6 months of verifiable training in museum specimen (preferably mammal or bird) preparation and databasing as well as in DNA extraction, amplification, and in-house or outsourced sequencing.
