Applications are invited for a full-time, non-tenure line appointment in the Department of Social Work available Fall semester 2023.

Successful candidates will have the ability to teach across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in teaching any of the following areas: social work practice, addictions and mental health, diversity, theory, social welfare policy, practice and program evaluation, field practicum, or other areas based on practice expertise.

Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to the NASW Code of Ethics and communicate specific ways they will teach these standards to undergraduate and/or graduate students. Candidates should have strong teaching and practice skills to develop instructional activities, facilitate classroom discussion, and provide generalist, clinical or macro practice supervision.

We seek faculty candidates to teach four social work courses in both the fall and spring semesters, provide practicum supervision to students through classroom seminars and field work, and actively contribute to the intellectual and professional life of the Department of Social Work, College of Health, Ball State University, and the social work community at the local and state levels. Candidates for appointment as an Assistant Lecturer of Practice should have an earned Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program and at least two years post-MSW practice experience. To be appointed as an Assistant Professor of Practice, candidates should hold an earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, DSW, EdD, PsyD, DrPH) and have at least two years post-MSW practice experience.

Minimum Experience:

For Assistant Lecturer:
  • Applicants must hold a masters in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program
  • Must have at least two (2) years post-MSW practice experience,
  • Must have experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level in any of the following areas: social work practice, addictions and mental health, diversity, theory, social welfare policy, practice and program evaluation, field practicum, or other areas based on practice expertise.

For Assistant Professor of Practice:
  • Applicants must hold a doctorate (i.e., PhD, DSW, DrPH, EdD) and
  • Must have at least two (2) years post-MSW practice experience,
  • Must have experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level in any of the following areas: social work practice, addictions and mental health, diversity, theory, social welfare policy, practice and program evaluation, field practicum, or other areas based on practice expertise

Preferred Experience:

A. Advanced license in social work and/or addictions (LSW, LCSW, or LCAC)
B. Three (3) or more years of post-MSW practice experience
C. Two (2) or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level
D. Expertise in interprofoessional education and practice (IPE&P)
G. History of profoessional service (e.g., non-profit board membership, membership
in professional organizations, etc.)
H. Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence
