Ball State University's Office of the Registrar welcomes applications for the Student Information Systems Functional Analyst. Job Function:

The Student Information Systems Functional Analyst for the Registrar's Office is a member of Ball State's Student Support Systems and Reporting group. Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree plus a combination of education or experience in IT/technology equivalent to 2 years. Or, in lieu of Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree plus a combination of education or experience in IT/technology equivalent to 4 years.

Minimum Experience:

At least two years of experience with enterprise student information systems, specifically Ellucian Banner, with a track record of increasing experience and responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the planning, administration, management, and maintenance of the Registrar's student information systems (SIS) infrastructure to support all academic records functions such as academic transcripts, degree awarding, class scheduling configuration, and registration activities for specialized programs and partnerships for which the traditional SIS infrastructure approach is insufficient.
  • Participate in the planning, designing, and implementation of varied approaches that leverage delivered SIS functionality to further the service mission of the Office of the Registrar; conduct requirements gathering, business process analysis, author functional specifications as well as basic project timelines/project plans; address and discuss issues and proposed solutions with management.
  • Continually assess the unit's SIS-related business practices; streamline processes and improve the delivery of services by providing a cooperative, service-supported approach to the University community. This includes, but is not limited to, business process review, documentation and training, communications and presentations, project management, etc.
  • Coordinate with business/functional/technical staff across administrative units (ex: Admissions, Student Financial Services, Financial Aid, Division of Online and Strategic Learning [DOSL], Information Technology Services [ITS], schools/colleges, etc.) to ensure alignment between academic and financial configuration. Organize testing and upgrades for the student systems as they relate to the office, including writing and maintaining test plans.
  • Provide functional and analytical support to the Office of the Registrar, with a particular emphasis on data integrity/security, reporting, best practices, process streamlining, training, and documentation as they relate to SIS system and associated technical differentiation created for special programs.
  • Write system requirements and/or specification documents. Ensure business systems solutions are functional and meet requirements. Translate between all parties to make sure they understand, in their terms, the systems’ needs, requirements, and technology parameters and constraints and to ensure resulting design and functionality are consistent with all requirements and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain expert technical and operational knowledge of the Office of the Registrar's systems.
  • Perform security administration for SIS and other systems/technologies used to support the Office of the Registrar.
  • Work directly with IT staff on automation, process improvement, data integrity, and data integration projects as needed. Troubleshoot batch processes, data integrations, and related issues as needed. Perform after-hours updates, upgrades, and system configuration changes to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in implementing new systems or modules related to student data.
  • Participate in centralized data clean-up efforts working to identify, create, test and run needed data clean up scripts
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
