Director of Planned Giving

Position Highlights:

The Director of Planned Giving is a critical fundraising position in the Foundation's philanthropy team. The Director of Planned Giving reports to the AVP Philanthropy and works closely with them to devise and implement strategies to maximize revenues through the full range of planned giving vehicles and instruments. They will be deeply knowledgeable in the technical details of planned gifts; lead and motivate a growing team of experienced planned giving fundraisers, and successfully manage their own portfolio of individual prospects.

The Director will play a central role in the growth of the Foundation in the next three years, both in terms of growing income and strengthening team capacity. They will work with the AVP to build an effective team for the future. They will manage the individual performance of team members, meet ambitious goals by developing a strong multiyear roadmap for soliciations, and ensure metrics are in place to track progress and course correct where necessary. They will bring a depth of knowledge and best practice to the role to ensure that the full range of planned giving vehicles are utilized and made available to donors including, charitable remainder and lead trusts, charitable gift annuities, beneficiary designations, bequests, gift of property and securities and other key forms of giving.

They will stay fully abreast of changes in tax legislation and other legislation impacting planned giving, and maintain robust forms of communication to their team and others on such changes.

They will be able to tutor other members of the team on the technicalities and practices of planned giving to enable Individual and Family Giving officers to introduce these concepts to prospects where necessary.

They will be a mature, action and goal oriented professional, with a strong understanding of complex decentralized organizations and the ability to navigate through them to build their fundraising program.

 

 

 

Select Responsibilities:

  • Successfully lead a growing team of experienced fundraisers to meet ambitious revenue goals.
  • Work with the AVP and Foundation President to recruit and retain the Planned Giving team
  • Work with  AVP and Foundation President to set annual and multi year goals, metrics and performance measures
  • Work with the Prospect, Data, and IFG teams to identify new prospects for Planned gifts, and build the pipeline of gifts through Gift Intentions and irrevocable commitments.
  • Track progress to goal throughout the year and set an ambitious pace for achieving them.
  • Develop and manage own portfolio of prospects and donors, providing expert advice to donors on estate planning and philanthropy.
  • Assist in the swift development of proposals for gift opportunities, ensuring the right consultation and clearance of projects
  • Ensure policies and processes are best practice and up to date.
  • Manage up well, with timely communication and involvement of AVP and Foundation president in key decision making
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and create annual plans for the team
  • Work effectively with physicians, researchers and center leaders

 

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree within relevant field.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ as a Planned Giving fundraiser in a Healthcare or Higher Ed organization.
  • Progressive management responsibilities in a Healthcare or Higher Ed organization, with ten years of managing fundraising team of at least three
  • Broad and deep legal knowledge and technical expertise in the field of Planned Giving and Estate Planning
  • Proven track record of initiating, steering and closing planned gifts on a consistent basis.

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree within Law or Juris Doctorate or relevant degree.
