College/Department Information

The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine is charged with conducting high-impact original biomedical research and translating the findings to clinical applications, and in educating future physicians and researchers. Our research addresses fundamental questions in cell and developmental biology, endocrinology, neuroscience, regenerative medicine, and cancer biology. Collaborations have been established with clinical departments for studies that investigate various diseases including neurological diseases (stroke, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, and Guillain-Barre syndrome); psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia and autism); degenerative diseases (osteoporosis); cancer; and endocrinological disorders. Our department is also the home to the new Transgenic and Genome Editing Core. MCG is a state-supported academic medical center located in a historic city with outstanding recreational and lifestyle opportunities.

Job Summary
A research associate position is available immediately in Dr. Qin Wang's lab in the Department of Neuroscience & Regenerative Medicine, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. The Wang lab studies mechanisms and treatment strategies of Alzheimer's disease and other neuropsychiatric disorders.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform a variety of experiments and record/organize experimental results
  • Track and maintain colonies of research animals;
  • Serve as a study coordinator for studies involving rodent animals;
  • Contribute to lab management and operation;
  • Assist with submission of grant proposals and manuscripts
  • Assist with training and supervision of new students and technicians in the lab as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology or other natural, life, health care, social sciences or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years research and /or clinical experience OR A Master's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology or other natural, life, health care, social sciences or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory, particularly clinical trial research.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to maintain confidentialityExcellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Part-Time (0.49 FTE); Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: R14

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Participation in the Georgia Defined Contribution Plan is mandatory for part-time and temporary employees. The Georgia Defined Contribution Plan is a retirement plan for part-time employees who work less than 50% and for temporary employees. Members contribute 7 1/2% of gross salary to the plan.
