The Biology Department seeks to hire an experienced Senior Laboratory Technician. Responsibilities for this position include conducting NIH funded neurobiology studies and laboratory management. This position is based in Dr. Chris Lemon’s lab located on the OU Norman campus. The lab group seeks a self-motivated individual for this position who has prior experience in neuroscience or life sciences laboratory research, strong organization skills, and works well in a collaborative, team environment. Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with and perform neurobehavioral experiments in mouse models
  • Management of a mouse colony, including breeding, weaning, genotyping
  • Management of lab supply, viral, and reagent stocks
  • Coordinating supply orders, invoice management and organization
  • Training and management of new lab personnel, including undergraduate students
  • Able to direct attention/focus on lab tasks for extended periods
  • Work and coordinate with individuals both inside and outside of laboratory to achieve goals
  • Openness to learning new research approaches and techniques
  • Able to work independently

Job Requirements

Required Education: High School Diploma

  • 12 months of laboratory experience.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of laboratory procedures
  • Working knowledge of the proper handling of chemicals and biohazardous materials
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations in different units of measurement
  • Ability to use fractions, percentages, and ratios
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or other relevant programs
  • Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing

Certifications:

  • None

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Physical: Standing for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity, walking, and talking. Ability to move or lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Environmental: May be exposed to biohazardous materials, blood borne pathogens, or chemicals.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s (BA/BS) or Master’s degree in Neuroscience or a related field (Biology, Molecular Biology, Psychology, etc.)
  • 1-2 years of experience in lab management and life sciences research
  • Experience working with murine (rodent) models in neurobiology research
  • Knowledge of genetics
  • Exceptional organizational skills
