College/Department Information
The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, we provide dental education to the next generation of professionals by offering hands-on education through innovative research, patient care, and service. Join other dental providers to improve the oral health of Georgia and beyond. The DCG was founded to provide the people of Georgia with quality dental care by educating students in dentistry. As a patient, you have the option to receive treatment in one of our three different practice models consisting of student clinics, resident care, or in the faculty practice. All dental treatments can be completed by the specialists in our facility. We also serve patients in more than 20 clinics across Georgia.

Job Summary
Analyze the medical/dental record documentation and transform healthcare diagnoses, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal HIPAA compliant medical alphanumeric codes, which are applied and submitted during the medical billing process.

Data entry into axiUm and Carevoyant billing systems using the appropriate CDT, CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS codes. Actions will be in accordance with federal, state, and payor billing requirements.

Knowledge of medical terminology and CMS billing.

Build daily work queue using axiUm Info Manager predefined report generator.

Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Multispecialty professional (Provider) coding for Pathology, Evaluation & Management (E/M office visits) and Surgical medical and dental services Abstract coding from medical/dental record documentation. Run system reports to identify and prioritize work queue by department for professional services for Main Hospital OR (dental) services, Children's Hospital of Georgia and AU Ambulatory Surgery Center. Use of PowerChart for operative notes to obtain documentation for coding. Email queries to providers when documentation has errors, missing, or otherwise ambiguous information that prevents coding of services
  • Facility coding for Pediatric Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Dental and Medical), and Cosmetic Surgery. Use of PowerChart for operative notes to obtain documentation for coding. Email queries to providers when documentation has errors, missing, or otherwise ambiguous information that prevents coding of services.
  • Complete Oral Medicine/Pathology Box Spreadsheet for coding pathology services. Email queries to providers when documentation has errors, missing or otherwise ambiguous information that prevents coding of services
  • Charge entry of professional and facility codes and charges for AU Ambulatory Surgery Center, Oral Pathology, Oral and Cosmetic Surgery
  • Coordinate with Insurance Department to resolve coding denials from payors. Coordinate the entry of teaching cases for write off/adjustments with Business Office Director.
  • Assist with annual billing compliance audits
  • Coordinate with Business Office for charge entry errors, write-offs and adjustments to professional and facility services where applicable (teaching cases, cosmetic clinics) so that billing statements and Accounts Receivable are accurate. Discuss and resolve coding denials with insurance staff/manager. Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School diploma /GED from a recognized state or federal accrediting organization, training in an accredited medical coding program, two years' experience as a multi-specialty coder and requisite coding certification(s).

Other Required Qualifications
Proficient knowledge of payor billing requirements, CDT, CPT and ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and conventions, proficient knowledge of medical and dental terminology.

Required Experience
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) certificates from the American Academy of Professional Coders' (AAPC). Certified Coding Associate (CCA) certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
ASC medical coding certification. Charge entry and transcription experience.

Preferred Experience
Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in healthcare or business related field, specialty certifications in addition to required CPC certification

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of coding and medical terminology are imperative to duties.

Certifications/License
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) certificates from the American Academy of Professional Coders' (AAPC). Certified Coding Associate (CCA) certification from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F

Pay Grade: 12

Salary: Minimum $15.06/ hour - Midpoint $19.58/hour

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
