Develop and maintain all card and key access systems for students living in the residence halls, housing and residence life staff, summer conference guests, vendors/contractors, and others needing access to residential facilities. This includes development of access schedules, review of access requests, safety and security audits, report writing, and other systems responsibilities. Assists with other HRL systems including work orders and housing management systems, reports, documentations and other IT systems functions.

The Ball State University Housing and Residence Life department has an opening for Systems Specialist for Access Control. The Systems Specialist develops and maintains all card and key access systems for students living in the residence halls, housing and residence life staff, summer conference guests, vendors/contractors, and others needing access to residential facilities. This includes development of access schedules, review of access requests, safety and security audits, report writing, and other systems responsibilities. Job Function:

Develop and maintain all card and key access systems for students living in the residence halls, housing and residence life staff, summer conference guests, vendors/contractors, and others needing access to residential facilities. This includes development of access schedules, review of access requests, safety and security audits, report writing, and other systems responsibilities. Assists with other HRL systems including work orders and housing management systems, reports, documentations and other IT systems functions.

Minimum Education:

Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution in computing science, systems, or related or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computing science, systems, or related field.

Minimum Experience:

Over one year of related experience, including administrative and technical support.

Preferred Experience:

Experience with Cbord Access Systems or similar access control system. Three years of related experience, including administrative and technical support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director Housing Systems and Technology, develop and maintain all card access systems and schedules for students living in the residence halls, housing and residence life staff, summer conference guests, vendors/contractors, and others needing access to residential facilities.
  • Develop and implement regular audit protocols for card and key access systems including periodically reviewing card and key permissions by responsibility, termination and permissions of access, safety procedures, and review protocols.
  • Create and maintain records for electronic key cabinets; track and record usage and set parameters for access; generate reports as needed to ensure safe, efficient, and effective facility access systems.
  • Maintain and manage all records associated with coring and re-coring of residence hall buildings, maintain inventory or cores and produce re-coring request as needed.
  • Serve as back-up for TMA/work order systems and housing management systems as needed.
  • Develop and maintain and distribute all card access reports.
  • Utilize a framework of equity and justice in all aspects of their day-to-day work. Promote equity through the (1) identification and removal of barriers, (2) cultivate inclusive work environments, and (3) empowerment of people.
  • Foster strong relationships with campus partners related to systems access and IT.
  • Stay current on trends and updates related to card and key access systems and management.
  • Work collaboratively on the HRL IT Systems team and more broadly on the HRL Business Operations Team.
  • Perform other Related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
