The Department of Biology at Appalachian State University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor with teaching and research interests that lie at the intersection of evolution, ecology, and global change.

We have a particular interest in candidates with expertise in tropical ecology, reptile biology and biogeography, whose research focuses on ecological mechanisms of evolutionary diversification, ecological effects of phenotypic variation, and evolutionary ecology of hurricanes.

The candidate will have the opportunity to foster collaborations within the department and contribute to our new Integrative Biology concentration.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Biology at Appalachian State University is a community of 42 faculty who are active in teaching and research, along with a support staff that includes a greenhouse manager, a research operations manager, two lab supervisors and three administrators. Thirty-four of these faculty members have earned doctorates and eight have master’s degrees. We strive to maintain a faculty with diverse research interests, ranging from molecules and cells to communities and landscape ecology. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities will include Introduction to Zoology and participation in the Introductory Biology sequence for majors, along with contributions to upper level elective courses such as Global Change Ecology, Biostatistics, Tropical Ecology, Data Analysis and Visualization in R, or Stable Isotope Techniques and Applications.

The successful candidate is expected to develop a research program that is competitive for external funding and involves undergraduate and master’s students.
