Job Summary
The Design Technology Specialist provides ongoing technical support and guidance to College of Design students using design technology resources, specifically in a woodshop and hands on fabrication environment. Under the supervision of the FabLab Manager, this position assists in the operation and maintenance of machinery in the workshops, ensuring the safe and efficient use of tools and equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a high degree of creativity and craftsmanship skills, with demonstrated experience with designing and constructing physical
objects, from architectural models to furniture, according to specific project requirements. Position responsibilitiesinclude:

• Assists with daily operational tasks, checking out design material, receiving returns, and determining outstanding materials. Routine projects may also include sharpening and
replacing tools, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. Locates materials and equipment to assist faculty and students, referring requests requiring a higher level of assistance to the
appropriate manager.
• Monitors FabLab facilities, equipment, and tools, performing routine maintenance as needed.
• Promotes a culture of safety compliance and customer service to faculty, staff, and students assisting with safety training as needed. Observes and demonstrates appropriate use of all FabLab
equipment, including CNC operations and CAM software.
• Works effectively and appropriately with students in an educational setting, providing technical support to constituents of varying proficiency in the use of design technology resources.
