Position Description:
Excelling in quality, innovation, and impact, UCLA Extension (UNEX) is one of the top providers of continuing and professional education in the United States, offering programs and classes to more than 50,000 students per year through approximately 4,500 classes and certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of traditional, nontraditional, domestic, international, professional, and continuing education students throughout and beyond Los Angeles.
Reporting under the Dean of UNEX, the inaugural Director of Alumni Relations will plan, develop, and implement strategies for alumni-specific programs, events, activities, and communications. They will manage and evaluate alumni engagement programs that support and advance the mission and goals of UNEX. They will also work collaboratively with key leadership and staff members across academic departments, development/fundraising, events, marketing, student services, as well as other internal and external UCLA campus partners to achieve alumni engagement goals and vision. Lastly, they will provide vision, leadership, and initiative to plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a wide array of programs directed toward further enhancing individual and group support of UNEX by alumni and supporting fundraising efforts.
The Director will be responsible for cultivating affinity among UNEX alumni by creating effective communication tools to engage alumni and encourage participation in programs and initiatives. The Director will facilitate connections between alumni and current students to provide broad opportunities for engagement. The Director will be the strategic liaison and representative between the organization and alumni, sharing engagement opportunities that include but are not limited to career development and mentoring programs, student engagement, global engagement, and industry engagement. The Director will engage the alumni community in initiatives and programs defined by leadership and academic departments; manage the information and data pertaining to alumni engagement, areas of interest, and expertise; and develop annual unit plans and priorities. The Director will also be the main liaison to the UCLA Alumni Association.
Lastly, the incumbent will foster strong working relationships with internal UNEX and other UCLA campus partners to advance alumni engagement, by involving alumni in opportunities representing their areas of interest and expertise. The incumbent will provide input for the creation and dissemination of relevant and timely communication in collaboration with Marketing Communications, Development, and UCLA Alumni Association colleagues to share news, promote programs, events, donor opportunities, and other alumni engagement opportunities. The incumbent will work in partnership with the Director of Development for the qualification of prospects and donor management. They will also partner with UNEX Career Services to support, develop, and implement alumni professional and career development opportunities.
