In collaboration with the Dean, Associate Dean and the Communications Specialist, this position will be responsible for assisting with the execution of BSU's College of Sciences and Humanities (CSH) community and digital engagement strategy to promote the image and reputation of the College through events and media. The Assistant Communication Specialist will have knowledge about CSH internal and external community audiences and investors of the College and University and assist in implementing communication strategies to engage and inform each audience. The position will provide multimedia expertise producing content on a multitude of platforms (e.g., desk-top publishing, social media, website content and maintenance, press releases, presentations,videos, blogs, etc.)) to the College of Sciences and Humanities administration and over 20 different college units (departments, institutions, centers, and programs).

Minimum Education:
Associate's degree or equivalent.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, English, journalism, marketing, or relevant field.
Minimum Experience:
At least one year of desk top publishing, word processing and web site design experience.
Preferred Experience:
One year or more of Communications, Marketing, event planning or related experience with
communication coordination; prior work experience in an academic environment; digital literacy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the Associate Dean in charge of communications and the Communications Specialist in the content and messaging across multimedia and event channels to engage the multiple stakeholders (department chairs, faculty, staff, students, alumni, community and professional partners) of the College of Sciences and Humanities.
- Acquire, produce and distribute multimedia content (digital and print) that communicates the experiences, successes and impact of the college by conducting interviews, writing narratives, designing graphics and promoting events based on directives from the Communications Specialist.
- Help maintain a digital presence for the college including social media accounts, the college website and blog, and e-newsletters.
- Support the Communications Specialist in gathering information on, and being familiar with, the success, events, and academic accomplishments of faculty, student, and alumni achievements from college departments; and appropriately share this information with the administrative units.
- Assist in the design of college materials to promote the college to students, alumni and donors (e.g., brochures, display boards, etc.), including any specialized projects as needed.
- Support the Communications Specialist, college and departments with outreach efforts, promotional days, crowdfunding initiatives and some specialized college events (e.g. One Ball State Day, conference booths, and exhibits).
- Assist departments in implementing internal and external communication plans developed by the Communications Specialist and their department liaison(s).
- Provide support to the Communications Specialist and college staff and faculty in the use of university-approved communication platforms.
- Attend college and university events, some of which may occur outside of regular work hours.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
