Position Summary:
The UAF Music Department seeks a non-tenure track Music Assistant Professor to direct and teach core Music Education courses, to teach students (beginner through advanced) whose primary instrument is the cello, and to serve as the principal cellist in the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra.
Duties:
Teaching undergraduate courses in Music Education (i.e., Introductory course, Elementary and Secondary Teaching Methods, and Practica that involve onsite supervision and observation). Teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level Music courses (i.e., String Methods, Private Lessons, and Chamber Music coaching)Research/Creative Activity: Engagement in creative and scholarly activities.Service: Fulfill various service obligations at the department/program level with options for service at the CLA, and University levels, and for academic, professional, and community purposes, including community outreach. Service includes maintaining accreditation of the Music Education Program. Cello may include playing chamber music as a member of the Alaska Trio (faculty chamber group) and functioning as principal cellist in the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra.

The skills required to teach the material.
The ability to convey the subject matter and expectations in ways students can comprehend.
The ability to see when a student requires a different approach in order to comprehend the material.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Experience teaching music at K-12 levels; experience teaching music at college/university level; solo/chamber performance experience in Cello. Doctorate degree in Musical Arts or Music Education required. At least two years’ experience in Music Education Program administration/coordination and teaching.
