Description:Course Description: Collegiate Seminar Part B offers us the opportunity to read and critically discuss (both in class and in writing) a selection of thinkers and writers who have helped form the foundation of Western culture. Together we will learn the art of shared inquiry, improve our ability to understand and articulate complex ideas, and develop our own, unique perspectives on age-old questions. What responsibilities do we have to our communities? What constitutes a community? What are the limits of human suffering and virtue? How (and why) do our ideals fail to translate into social justice? We will also develop our abilities to compose our own arguments and to support those arguments with evidence and sound analysis.
The BALOS Department at Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct to teach an upper division seminar course. Candidates should be comfortable in a student-centered teaching environment with an interactive learning style. Work in a highly collaborative and cultural diverse classroom environment. Strong commitment to undergraduate, liberal arts education.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in related field
Experience teaching at the college level
Experience Teaching socratic method
Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate, liberal arts education; be comfortable in a student-centered teaching environment with an interactive learning style; comfortably work in a highly collaborative and culturally diverse classroom environment. Strong commitment to undergraduate, liberal arts education. Candidates must reside in California.
Salary: $6,480-$10,308 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
