We seek a Catholic theologian with specialization in Latin@ theology and religious experience. Expertise in Latin@ religious and socio-cultural identities and inclusive practices will be integral to an ideal candidate's scholarly work and pedagogical philosophy.
We seek an inspiring individual who is at home in the tradition of the liberal arts and who is committed to students, teaching, scholarship, and social justice. We seek a person who can guide students in the life of the mind and the spirit, not merely someone solely interested in preparing students for graduate research. The department focuses on the Catholic Christian tradition that are taught from an ecumenical perspective and in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council. We seek a scholar both knowledgeable and respectful of this tradition. The position will reside in the Theology & Religious Studies Department, though we seek candidates who are also able to engage in multi-disciplinary collaborations with other departments and programs such as Ethnic Studies, the Mission and Ministry Center, and the School of Education.
Responsibilities:
The candidate will teach the lower division Core course, “Christian Foundations,” which introduces students to the Catholic biblical and theological tradition as well as upper division courses in Latin@ theology and religious experience. All faculty are encouraged to teach in the College's January Term and Collegiate Seminar programs.
Saint Mary's faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda and demonstrate intellectual growth and significant achievement appropriate to their field. All faculty also contribute to the mission in alignment with Transformation 2028 strategic priorities and as it relates to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, and interdisciplinary programming.
All faculty serve the College and community in many ways, such as academic advising, student and community outreach, participation in departmental and College-wide committees, and the development and assessment of the College's Core Curriculum. Faculty are also expected to teach in the College's Core Curriculum, January Term, and Collegiate Seminar programs.

Qualifications:
Candidates for this tenure-track position should possess an earned doctorate in theology and/or religious studies with a documented specialization in Latin@ theology and religious experience by August 2024. [Those who have reached the ABD stage in their active progress toward a doctoral degree (i.e., completion of all qualifying and competency examinations) will also be considered.]
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of teaching effectiveness in Latin@ theology and religious experience, particularly among undergraduates. Further preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated leadership experience in and with Hispanic Serving Institutions. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not required.
