Job Description

Summary

The Department of Medicine, Section of Epidemiology and Population Health is seeking a Senior Research Administration Associate to manage the pre-award and post-award activity for all federal, state, and private foundation research grant awards for Investigators in the Section. Will partner with Section leadership and team members to ensure the success of the research mission within the Section.  Will help guide and mentor junior research administration staff.

 

This role is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

 

Employees with CRA certification are eligible for certification pay.

Job Duties

Pre-Award

  • Serve as liaison between Investigators, the Department of Medicine, BCM’s Sponsored Programs Office and Sponsors
  • Gather and create documents necessary for grant and subaward submissions including budgets, budget justification, other support, statement of work, etc and communicate timelines to investigator to ensure applications are submitted on time to central office for review and approva
  • Ensure investigators and applications are complaint with all guidelines
  • Attend workshops on research administration for continued education and contribute to the development and improvement of the pre-/post- award management process
  • Review and approve grant applications, certifying summary data in the College's electronic Biomedical Research and Assurance Information Network (BRAIN) on behalf of the department

Post-Award

  • Submit invoices to sponsors when applicable
  • Validate incoming subaward invoice with investigators when applicable
  • Work with section administrator, Grants & Contracts and Accounting to ensure revenue is routed to appropriate accounts
  • Work with investigators to confirm sourcing of research staff to appropriate accounts monthly
  • Prepare financial reports to track research mission financial for monthly/quarterly/annual review upon request
  • Track grant expenses and ensure appropriate use of funds

Other Responsibilities

  • Recommend improvement to and changes in operations to increase effectiveness and efficiency
  • Contribute and lead the development and continuous improvement of the pre-award and post award grants management process
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Research Administration to train and mentor section staff in BCM processes and procedures
  • Manage and execute special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.  Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research administrative work experience in an academic research setting.
  • Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
  • Highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues.
