The Department of Art and Design at Augusta University seeks outstanding applicants for the position of Lecturer who will hold an administrative post of Gallery Director for the award-winning Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art. This is a lecture faculty position (10-month contract) with duties to begin in fall 2023 or as soon as possible.
The Lecturer/Gallery Director is responsible for teaching two core curriculum courses during the academic year; facilitating student learning opportunities by planning, installing, and de-installing six to seven exhibitions each year, ranging from student exhibitions to those featuring nationally and internationally recognized artists; negotiating terms for the exhibitions to be reviewed by the department chair; planning and overseeing artist talks, receptions and events related to these exhibitions; collaborating with the Augusta, GA community; maintaining content on the Mary S Byrd Gallery website at https://www.augusta.edu/pamplin/art/gallery/.
Responsibilities
Conceptualize, plan, install, and de-install exhibitions within the Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art, including the annual juried student competition and exhibition.
Negotiate terms for exhibitions with artists and art organizations and create contracts for review by the department chair.
Plan and execute artist talks, receptions, and events related to the Mary S. Byrd Gallery of Art.
Contribute to and collaborate with Augusta, GA arts community to develop innovative curatorial concepts to support departmental experiential learning.
Maintain social media presence and content on the Mary S Byrd Gallery website at https://www.augusta.edu/pamplin/art/gallery/.
Teach one course per term in Art and Design curriculum (Potential courses to be taught include Marvel of Art and Art Foundation courses).

Required Qualifications
MFA in the appropriate discipline or its equivalent terminal degree, or its equivalent experience in training, ability, or experience.
An established record of teaching experience and industry experience, artistic practice or publication.
Demonstrated potential for teaching effectiveness with diverse student populations.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
Evidence of ability as a teacher;
Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
