Job Description

Do you have an excellent research track record with the vision and drive to tackle new challenges? Are you passionate about delivering world-leading research and an exceptional student experience?

The School of Food Science and Nutrition is seeking to appoint a Professor to deliver world-class research and inspirational teaching and supervision in the field of food biopolymers. Sustainability and health are two of the main food related global challenges and biopolymers are increasingly at their centre. The drive for functional foods with higher levels of palatable dietary fibre is any increasingly important research domain into both the pre and post consumption effects of biopolymers. Similarly, there is increasing pressure to use novel polymer biotechnology, especially focussed on manipulation of plant and microbial cell walls to innovate in biopolymer space in terms of enhancing fibre quality and quantity in diet. We are seeking a senior academic with a strong background in food biopolymer research, capable of addressing these grand challenges.

You will seek opportunities to establish new collaborative research programmes aligned with the objectives of the School, which aims to address global challenges in food, sustainability and health, and has received significant investment from the University to develop multi-disciplinary research and teaching.

You will enhance the School’s student education activities to consolidate the School’s position as one of the global leaders in Food Science and Nutrition education, engaging with students at all levels to integrate research into teaching.

With a strong international reputation and demonstrated academic leadership, you will positively contribute to shaping the research strategy of the School. You will enhance the reputation of the University, having a sustained record of outstanding outputs and demonstrable high-level impact. In so doing, you will make a significant and influential contribution to the achievement of the University’s strategic goals.

You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, with experience of leading research programmes that meet international standards of academic excellence, and integrating this research into learning and teaching. You will also have a track record of sustained delivery of ambitious and imaginative academic leadership, including effective team working and collaborative development. In addition, you will have experience of leading research initiatives and developing links with research groups in the UK and internationally.
