The HMS Center for Bioethics brings together the rich intellectual resources of the medical school faculty with health professionals and scientists from our affiliated teaching hospitals, departments across Harvard, and colleagues from other institutions worldwide to ensure that scientific progress, medical therapeutics, and health care practices proceed hand-in-hand with a reflection about the profound moral questions raised by advances in the life sciences. Our mission is to use these resources to execute our vision in teaching, service, and scholarship.The Center for Bioethics at Harvard Medical School is hiring a full-time research assistant for a study funded by the National Institutes of Health to examine ethical, legal, and social implications of Phase 1 trials. The candidate will have a strong background in qualitative methods and bioethics.
The research assistant will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Gabriel Lázaro- Muñoz, PhD, JD. Under nominal direction, the responsibilities include project planning, ensuring study protocol is followed, supporting grant writing, budget reporting and institutional review board applications, data collection, management and analysis, leading manuscripts and presentations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day activities of active projects, including IRB protocols and financial reports (e.g., following university purchase and reimbursement procedures), managing project files, and organizing project activities, and meetings.
- Assist in developing project interview guides and surveys and conducting interviews with patients and clinicians.
- Participate in coding and analysis of interview or survey data.
- Assist in preparing presentations and manuscripts for dissemination of findings.
- Prepare progress reports for key stakeholders and funders.
- Schedule and organize project meetings, including developing agendas.
- Maintain and update project websites.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
College background, preferably in social sciences, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, bioethics, or related field, and 1+ years of experience.Additional Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Master's degree in social sciences, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, bioethics or related field and at least two years of relevant work experience preferred.
- Experience with phase 1 trials, brain organoids, and how Institutional Review Boards (IRB)s function.
- Experience in project coordination, sponsored research, and qualitative interviewing.
- Demonstrated analytical and written communication skills, including proficiency in scientific writing.
- Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment that will require working on multiple projects or tasks.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
- Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues.
Additional Information
This is a term position with an end date of 12/31/2024, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.The health of our workforce is a priority for Harvard University.
