Job Description
Organizes and facilitates data collection and conducts statistical analysis of datasets while working across multiple, simultaneous projects. Applies scientific methodology and statistical analyses to implement appropriate methodologies for complex data management and statistical analyses. Facilitates algorithm development, software development, and result interpretation. Assists with grant preparations and staff training. Manipulates datasets and clean data and facilitates quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy.
This Statistician position in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) will provide service related to study design and statistical analysis to research investigators at the University of Pittsburgh. The incumbent will interact with other statisticians, other members of CTSI, and clients who submit requests for services through CTSI. Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or Statistics and a minimum of 3+ years’ experience in statistical analysis is required. Familiarity with complex statistical methods that apply to all phases of clinical studies, including the ability to determine the data analysis methodology and study design at the beginning of a study. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical documents. Ability to adapt to changing analytic methods and learn new analysis techniques as required by client projects. Ability to present complex issues in oral and written form. Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and flexibility in both the scheduling and the timing of appointments with clients. Ability to work on and successfully complete multiple simultaneous projects under pressure of deadlines. Ability to collaborate with client’s research team, including faculty mentors, to establish research methods. Ability to use independent judgment when carrying out tasks. Ability to write, edit, and review final analysis-related reports for publication during all stages of the drafting and review process. Proficiency in computer data management systems and methods of analysis and statistical packages (R, SAS, SPSS, and Stata), with the ability to design new statistical and data management programs to meet the needs of client requests.
