The Katherine Reese Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Augusta University seeks a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. The selected candidate will teach undergraduate applied voice, direct the AU Opera Ensemble; recruit students, and build and maintain a professional profile that reflects the career of a distinguished teacher/performer. The ideal candidate will have the potential for national distinction as a performer with experience singing on the concert and operatic stage. The faculty member will have the potential for or demonstrated successful experience teaching voice in a university setting; willingness to attract and retain quality undergraduate voice students. This position is considered on tenure track.

Responsibilities

Teaching - 80%
Teach undergraduate applied voice and direct the AU Opera Ensemble, teach coursework in areas of interest and specialty as needed, including opera and song literature, diction, and vocal pedagogy, recruit and retain high caliber voice students; contribute to the enhancement of all facets of the vocal area including vocal studios, opera/musical theater program and choral ensembles.

Scholarship - 15%
Build and maintain a professional profile that reflects the career of a distinguished teach/performer

Service - 5%
Serve on committees as assigned and have a willingness to attract and retain quality undergraduate voice students

Required Qualifications

Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) or equivalent professional experience is required.

Assistant Professor- Terminal degree (or nearing its completion), or its equivalent in training, ability, and/or experience.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;

- Evidence of ability as a teacher;

- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;

- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,

- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Soprano or Mezzo-Soprano preferred

National distinction as a performer

Experience singing on the concert and operatic stage.

Demonstrated successful experience teaching voice in a university setting

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.

Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
