Job Description

The School of Art invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Illustration beginning August of 2024. Our dynamic faculty function as collaborative, innovative, inclusive, and adaptive members of the College of Fine Arts community, both within and beyond the home unit, serving as quality teachers, productive in creative and/or scholarly work, engaged in public service activities, and contributing to the Ball State and Muncie communities and beyond. Additionally, lifelong learning at Ball State University extends educational engagement beyond the classroom and includes learning for professional development, personal enrichment, or other goals throughout one’s lifetime. Faculty will be expected to participate in the department’s, college’s, and university’s lifelong learning opportunities when available and may be assigned teaching responsibility in this area as part of their overall responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Instructional load will include all levels of course work in classes such as ART 213 Introduction to Illustration, ART 214 Surface Illustration, ART 317 Book Works, ART 318 Comic Art, and ART 417 Editorial Illustration.
  • Other teaching duties based on programmatic need and the expertise of the faculty hired individual may be assigned.
  • Additional responsibilities include course development, mentoring students at all levels, and supervising senior capstone projects.
  • This faculty member is also responsible for producing scholarship/creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure.
  • The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the School of Art, the College of Fine Arts, and the University by serving on committees and being active in their discipline’s community.

Salary and benefit packages for this position are competitive, with salaries for this opportunity beginning at $53,000 annually.

Minimum Experience:

  • MFA in illustration, animation, art, or related field from an accredited institution or at least six years of documented industry experience in illustration, animation, art, or related field

Preferred Experience:

· Significant industry experience in the field of illustration
· Evidence of current professional practice in illustration
· Experience and/or interest in developing new curriculum in illustration
· At least one year of teaching experience at the college level
