Summary

Seeking a postdoc to join a dynamic research team that focuses on four major research areas: (1) Spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1), a late-onset disease caused by expansion of a CAG repeat that encodes glutamine in Ataxin-1; (2) Alzheimer disease (AD) and Parkinson disease (PD) modulation by discovery of interactors which lead to moderate reduction of the disease-driving proteins tau and a-synuclein, respectively; (3) understanding the facets of MeCP2, the main genetic cause of Rett syndrome, a devastating childhood illness that appears after a period of apparently normal development, robbing girls of acquired language and motor skills and causing a host of other difficulties; and (4) a new line of research identifying genetic causes of autism spectrum disorder (ASDs) with specific attention to the genetic factors that might drive the male sex bias. Each postdoctoral lab member is encouraged to collaborate with other laboratories here at the NRI.

Job Duties

  • Designs, carries out, and analyzes results from their experimental plans, and contribute to lab wide tasks.
  • Gains experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, viral transduction, mouse genetics, behavior, and pathology.
  • Takes the lead on writing scientific manuscripts, help other trainees as well as contributing to research grant applications of the lab.
  • Attends departmental seminars and weekly lab meetings/journal club meetings.
  • Presents and discusses project at lab meeting on a quarterly basis.
  • Assists PI in preparing yearly progress report to funding agency.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in any of these disciplines: molecular genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, and/or physiology.
  • Experience with molecular biology, cell culture, and mouse work is critical.
