What Your Job Will Be Like: The Materials Physics Department at Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on novel nanoscale electronic devices. The work will include materials and device fabrication as well as electrical and physical characterization. Emphasis will be placed on developing a fundamental understanding of the atomic-scale physical and chemical mechanisms of operation of novel devices such as memristors. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and contribute creatively to team efforts and will be expected to present results at conferences and publish research in high profile peer-reviewed journals. Due to the nature of the work, the selected candidate must be able to work onsite at the Sandia Livermore location. To be eligible for this position, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States of America without sponsorship for employment visa status. Qualifications We Require: + PhD in electrical engineering, materials science, or other related physical or chemical sciences + A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferencesExperience in materials growth or fabrication of electronic devices Qualifications We Desire: + Experience in materials growth or fabrication of electronic devices + Experience in electrical and physical measurements of nanoelectronics devices + Experience in in-situ and in-operando measurements of electronic devices + Experience in compact and/or finite element modeling of electronic devices About Our Team: The Materials Physics department performs fundamental research on the structure and properties of materials to support programs in energy research, device physics, materials reliability, and national security. Specific activities include experimental and modeling studies of surface electronic structure and surface atomic structure and dynamics of metals, oxides, low dimensional semiconductors, and adsorbates; atomic-scale structure and composition analysis of metals, semiconductors, and composites; electrical and optical properties of low-dimensional semiconductors and optoelectronic devices; and the structural and electrochemical characterization of solid-state ionic materials. The Department supports internal and external sponsors and government agencies that seek solutions to problems of fundamental scientific inquiry, energy sustainability, and national defense. Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico need to pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. If hired without a clearance and it subsequently becomes necessary to obtain and maintain one for the position, or you bid on positions that require a clearance, a pre-processing background review may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation. Position Information: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
