Job Purpose
The overall purpose of this position is to install, maintain, repair and operate nuclear engineering equipment and other fluids-based lab equipment. Measure levels and types of radiation and instruct students, faculty and staff on safety procedures and how to identify hazardous conditions. Facilitate the purchase of personal protective and monitoring equipment that ensures safety in a lab environment.

Essential Functions
Provide technical support to nuclear and fluids laboratories through setup, maintenance and repair of equipment.

Facilitate purchase of materials, PPE, and monitoring supplies for the nuclear and fluids laboratories.

Provide annual safety training for faculty, students, and staff working in the nuclear engineering undergraduate and research labs.

Regularly monitor and document radiation levels in labs where appropriate.

Supervise student workers with the goal of enhancing their education with meaningful work experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in nuclear science or related technology or at least two years of military (Naval) training. Industrial Radiography and Radiation Safety Personnel Certification and/or Registered Radiation protection Technologist certificate. At least 1 year of industry experience working in a nuclear power plant or research laboratory using radioactive materials. Effective communication & critical-thinking skills are required due to the dangerous nature of the position. Must be proficient with mechanical systems, electronic systems, computation and analysis methods.
