This course will be taught in person, on campus

Course Description: An introduction for experienced actors and beginners to the performance practice and underlying philosophy of the radical theatre-maker Augusto Boal. Through games, exercises, and performance projects, students will question and critique the dynamics of power, class, and privilege in contemporary society, and rehearse alternative actions aimed at social transformation. The course builds confidence and a sense of broader possibilities for improvisation, both on stage and in life.



Qualifications:
An advanced degree in Theatre or a related field, expertise in the theories and praxis of Boal’s work, and at least 3 years of experience working with undergraduate students. The successful candidate will have experience in a culturally diverse classroom setting, the ability to create a student-centered, interactive and collaborative learning environment, and a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education.

Candidates must reside in California.

Salary: $9,929-$13,744 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
