The Business Information Analyst plays a crucial role in the organization by leveraging data to inform strategic business decisions. This position involves collecting, analyzing, and interpreting complex data sets to provide actionable insights that contribute to improved operational efficiency, informed decision-making, and overall business success. Design and operation of executive dashboard and other reports for the units in the Division of Auxiliary and Business Services.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff for the Vice President of Auxiliary and Business Services, the incumbent:
• Supports teams to make strategic decisions by developing and improving data-driven analyses and analytic reporting.
• Creates reports, charts, graphs, and presentations to aid in proposing new strategies for successful business approaches and strategies.
• Provides clear, effective, and courteous services that advance and support the data management and reporting needs of the supported units.
• Is a champion for a data-driven, decision-making culture.
• Uses statistical methodology to identify and communicate trends that may impact the supported units and the university.
• Provides independent advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities to data development and review of reports.
• Solves business problems with efficient and effective service and technology solutions within the Division.
• Provides leadership and oversight to projects within the Division to help implement system functionality and report capability.
• Supports division leadership to research, gather, interpret, organize data into project management and other systems, and recommends solutions to improve general business processes and planning.

The incumbent also performs other duties as requested by supervisor, takes initiative to support the best interests of the department and a healthy work environment, strives to fulfill the terms in the Standards of Business Conduct, Virginia Tech’s Principles of Community, and supports the university’s motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Required Qualifications

Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience
• Proven experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related role.
• Project Management experience.
• Experience creating process documentation.

Skills

• A high degree of initiative and self-sufficiency, and the ability to work effectively individually and as part of group projects and teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively.

Knowledge
• Strong proficiency in relational databases (such as SQL and Oracle); data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar; and with reporting and business intelligence tools
• Familiarity with statistical analysis tools and techniques.
• Proficient understanding of data and database management principles.
• Proficient understanding of statistics and data analysis principles and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or related field.
• Advanced skills in SQL, Excel, or other tools for data manipulation and analysis.
• Proficiency with multiple coding languages.
• Experience working in a higher education environment.
• Demonstrated experience and strong understanding of data security best practices.
• Impeccable business ethical standards, particularly related to the accurate reporting of data.
• Results-driven with a focus on delivering high-quality insights.
