College/Department Information

The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. We are dedicated to conveying new knowledge to future scientists and educating the next generation of scientists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals. Job Summary

Performs a variety of complex duties involved in a clinical study, a basic science or research laboratory in support of research initiatives; develops and evaluates new techniques and procedures; may coordinate activities of support staff.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities to include but not limited to:

Literature searches, reviews, etc - 20
Research scientific literature regarding current understanding of experimental paradigms. Conduct experiments, analyze results, and summarize findings. Prepare findings for presentations at national and international meetings, publications, and grants.

Research Activities - 20
Coordinate research activities and procedures of staff, graduate, and summer students by continuous discussion amongst lab members. Participate in project planning and development of research protocols. Develop and evaluate new techniques and procedures.

Research Techniques - 20
Advise principal investigators, postdoctoral fellows, students, and technicians in research techniques and procedures. Assist trainees and other technicians with analysis of project data.

Compliance - 20
Ensure compliance with rules and regulations pertaining to use of biohazardous materials, chemicals, anesthetic drugs and experimental animals; oversee use of materials, equipment, etc.

Order and maintaining supplies and equipment - 20
Order supplies and equipment; Maintain and trouble shoot equipment; maintain chemical and equipment inventories; and perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research. OR Associate degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards. Attention to detail, critical thinking, technical skills, data collection, data analysis, planning/scheduling, data collection, time management. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday-Friday

Pay Grade: R9

Salary Minimum: $15.00-$16.96 hourly.

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
