Position Description:

The School of Nursing seeks to hire an open-rank term professor with a teaching background and clinical experience at the Owensboro extension in Owensboro, Kentucky. Faculty for this position should have RN experience in acute and/or chronic mental health nursing. Experience in more than one specialty is desired.

Demonstrated excellence or recent education in teaching and learning pedagogy and adult learning principles will be essential. Leadership skills in working with diverse groups is crucial as is the academic credibility to garner respect from colleagues. The individual must possess excellent communication and collaboration skills and abilities, be flexible and nimble, and follow through on matters related to faculty and student success. This is a 10-month term position (starting August 2024) in the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and accelerated second-degree BSN programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing or BSN with graduate degree in related field
  • Experience in acute and/or chronic mental health nursing practice  
  • Recent education or effective teaching experience in multiple course delivery modalities, including online and hybrid.
  • Excellent presentation, writing, communication, and team collaboration skills.
  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered RN license to practice nursing in Kentucky.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in nursing or related discipline. Applicants without a doctoral degree must commit to completing a doctoral degree after hire to be eligible for promotion.
  • Experience in multiple clinical specialties.
  • Experience in course development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teaching scholarship.
  • Robust knowledge of salient research, effective pedagogical practices, adult learning theories, instructional design, higher education workforce trends, assessment techniques, scholarly research practices, teaching practices, and teaching technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in providing face-to-face, hybrid, and online teaching and learning.
  • Experience in providing instruction and consulting with faculty on effective student-centered teaching and learning, teaching with technology, universal design for learning, and teaching in all modalities.
  • Experience developing curricular programming and educational programs with broad campus collaboration.
