JOB DESCRIPTION:
ID-III in Geomatics supports both local and statewide Geomatics faculty in teaching and administering Geomatics courses and labs in Gainesville. The position acts as lead instructor for field labs and provides classroom and technology-based training to meet organization and individual needs. The position works with the SFFGS faculty and staff on maintaining the Geomatics curriculum and conducts need assessment for new academic offerings (e.g., certificates and degrees) based upon input from the professional community. The ID-III in Geomatics will coordinate with SFFGS student advisors on guiding prospective students through the admission process and advises current students and program staff in curriculum and career planning. The ID-III in Geomatics will coordinate Geomatics student activities, work closely with Geomatics student organization(s), and assist student participation in professional events.

The ID-III in Geomatics develops and maintains an office and field equipment inventory related to spatial data collection and analysis and provides related guidance for Geomatics learning and training programs. The position coordinates with SFFGS IT personnel and Geomatics faculty in ensuring that updated software versions are accessible in the Geomatics computer lab and courseware standards are met. The ID-III in Geomatics conducts a needs assessment for the purchase of Geomatics data collection equipment and software needed for teaching and research activities.

The position participates in developing strategies to use emerging geospatial technologies for spatial data collection efforts from airborne and terrestrial sensors. The ID-III in Geomatics participates in spatial data collection, analysis, and processing, resulting in the generation of maps, 3D models, and other geospatial products. The ID-III in Geomatics trains staff and student employees in data collection and management.

The ID-III in Geomatics supports outreach (Extension) programming aimed at recruiting and training current and potential future surveying/mapping technicians throughout Florida, with particular emphasis on north central Florida, through the development of comprehensive learning and training programs. The position works with Extension Specialists and Geomatics faculty, attends and coordinates meetings with the surveying societies, and assists in knowledge transfer. The position acts as a liaison between the educational community and the professional geospatial community, measures outcomes of outreach and recruitment events, and is responsible for promotion efforts through social media and other online venues. The position attends statewide meetings as required, which may include weekend and evening extension and training activities.

EXPECTED SALARY:
$77,000.00 - $82,000.00

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Master's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional surveying license
