College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

This position works within the specified department or services and will function as an integral part of the healthcare team. Serves various roles including working directly alongside faculty and staff, providing care to the entire spectrum of patient acuity levels, working semi-autonomously and serving as a provider to initiate appropriate care for individuals with developmental disabilities in an intermediate care setting. Care involves primary care duties, including ordering routine healthcare screenings, addressing acute issues such as urinary tract infections, and respiratory tract infections, and occasionally, injuries such as bumps and bruises occurring in this setting.

Responsibilities

Care involves primary care duties including ordering routine healthcare screenings, addressing acute issues such as urinary tract infections and respiratory tract infections and, occasionally, injuries such as bumps and bruises occurring in this setting. Additional duties include routine assessments on developmentally disabled individuals such as annual medical assessments, violence and victimization assessments, suicide risk assessments and clinical risk assessments.

Community Clinics

Outpatient community clinical assistance with medical management includes gynecology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, urology, neurology/seizure clinic, and radiology for mammogram screening; Practitioner must be comfortable with seizure, tracheostomy and gastrostomy tube management as well as replacing g-tubes

Prescribing medications for acute and chronic illness in accordance with the GA Nurse Practice Act

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Active Advanced Practice Registered Nursing Licensure in Georgia. Current certification to practice as a Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner through approval by the Georgia Nursing Board. Qualified to obtain prescriptive authority in the State of Georgia. Ability to meet requirements for hospital medical staff credentialing. Two years' experience in professional nursing. Ability to formulate diagnoses based on examination and interpretation of test results. Ability to identify deviations from the norms and intervene or make appropriate referrals. Ability to complete nursing assessments, develops and implements nursing care plans, and revise plans as appropriate.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Grade: 25

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
