Job Summary
The Director of Environmental Health, Safety and Fire Safety provides management, direction and oversight of all university Environmental Health and Safety programs including development, implementation, administration, evaluation and compliance.

Responsibilities
Compliance Monitoring & Enforcement - 30
Establishes standards, practices and methods related to EHS, Fire and Life Safety including application and enforcement of all federal, state and local EHS regulations, codes, and University policies. Monitors and makes reports on environmental concerns, which may include food preparation and service areas, pest control, general cleanliness, air and water quality, and other environmental issues. Monitor the purchase of all hazardous chemicals, materials, and maintain Material Data Sheets for all such materials used and or stored on university property.

Coordination, Operations & Training - 30
Manages annual inspections of fire and life safety systems. Serves as the Right to Know Coordinator, administering Right to Know Plan and Program in compliance with applicable state law. Assists with coordination of waste and recycling and manages hazardous waste disposal. Provides guidance regarding bio-hazardous materials and bio-safety programs to various departments on campus as applicable. Acts as first responder in safety-related emergencies including spills, floods, fire and other potential hazardous situations. Supports and participates in emergency management training and exercises.

Liaison and Partnerships - 15
University point of contact on EHS matters. Liaison with Federal, State, and local agencies having jurisdiction including, but not limited to OSHA, FEMA, GEMA, Georgia EPD, State Fire Marshal, USG, local EMA, water and fire departments, campus public safety, vendors and contractors. Advises offices of disability services, legal affairs and Inclusive Excellence on ADA and related programs.

Administrative Support -15
Responsible for fiscal management of budgets related to Environmental Health and Safety. Keeps up-to-date records for maintenance and inspections. Maintains asset accountability.

Other - 10
Other duties as assigned. Subject to after-hour duties and recall

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Emergency Management or related field

Other Required Qualifications
Fire inspector certification and/or Fire alarm certification or ability to obtain certification within 12 months. Valid driver's license

Required Experience
Eight years of professional work experience associated with progressively responsible management of a multi-faceted program in environmental compliance, occupational health and safety, laboratory safety, environmental health or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Designation as a Board-certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Designation as a Board-Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Experience in the management of a broad, full spectrum EHS program including but not limited to Chemical Hygiene, Environmental Compliance, Occupational Safety, Waste Management, etc.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field

Preferred Experience
5 years of Higher Education experience; Experience managing an Environmental Compliance program

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Ability to analyze and interpret technical documents or regulations and then determine applicability and steps associated with achieving compliance. Ability to effectively present information and concepts in an organized, data driven written or presentation format. Ability to conduct environmental, health, and safety related risk assessment, mitigation, and crisis management.

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of State and Federal compliance regulations including but not limited to Clery ACT, Title IX, FERPA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, EPCRA, HAZWOPER, RCRA, etc. Familiarity with FEMA NIMS incident command system.

SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with aptitude to recognize, evaluate, and recommend corrective measures and produce clear and concise reports. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization and
motivate and inspire employees. Refined judgment and decision-making skills, including in emergencies.
