Job Summary

The Instructional Designer (ID) will guide and support the development of Innovative online programs and courses through direct consultation with Individual faculty and faculty groups regarding online course design, delivery, and quality assurance. The designer will work across various programs and disciplines. The Instructional Designer is responsible for working collaboratively with faculty, subject matter experts, and cross­ departmental stakeholders in the conceptualization, design, development, and on-time delivery of high-quality online courses and learning experiences. This person will work within AU Online and collaborative with IT, faculty, staff, and administrators to design, develop, and deliver quality online courses and programs that effectively integrate teaching methods, technology tools and assessments to enhance student learning to meet both instructional quality and student experience standards.

The specific work of the ID focuses on creating new online programs and curricula that will support fully online offerings. This individual will also assist with quality assurance for online courses and will contribute to the development of processes and procedures that increase consistency, quality and regulatory compliance of online courses and programs. The successful candidate will understand instructional design, be a creative problem solver and expected to engage in a spirit of positive support for our online efforts as well as instructional innovation and to work collaboratively with colleagues across the campus community. Overall, Instructional designers must specialize in one or more of the 4 areas: curricular project management. learning design, media, and/or instructional technology. For this position, we are seeking a specialist in multi­media. video production and editing.

Responsibilities

Develop Instructional materials: Collaborate with colleagues and faculty on learning design best practice for effective online learning. They will help faculty take advantage of available campus technologies, assist faculty members with the development of media materials to be incorporated into online courses; and assist faculty in using media, software and educational technologies to enhance their instruction. In some cases, the instructional designer will build and oversee project management to support program design and development. The designer will be able to create high quality and valid assessment plans and artifacts to assess evidence of learning for both formative and summative performances to maximize learner understand and retention of content. Some of the specific responsibilities will be to:
  • Source/create dynamic content to ensure learners remain engaged and courses;
  • Review and update existing instructor-led and online content and curate the most relevant content to be included in the course;
  • Work closely within teams to guides, PowerPoints, online resources, websites, and handouts for all training delivery channels;

Make informed recommendations on changes and adjustments to learning experiences using performance data, and instructor/student feedback as required.

Quality assurance: Support quality assurance processes for online courses: apply rubrics to evaluate the quality of course design and teaching practice; consult with instructors regarding accessibility of electronic materials, copyright, and compliance with pertinent regulations, policies, and accreditation standards.

Faculty professional development, training, and consultations: Support the development of faculty training aimed at assisting faculty in the development of engaging and interactive online programs and courses. Consult with faculty as they incorporate software and educational technology into the development of learning experiences; coordinate projects for online programs to ensure high quality faculty experience with the online design and development process.

Ongoing professional growth: Update and improve one's own knowledge, skills and attitudes pertaining to the instructional design process, faculty development, new models9f instruction, emerging technologies, and related fields.

Others: Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college of university and a minimum of two years of related experience working with a learning management system such as Daylight/D2L.

OR

Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field from an accredited college/university.

Preferred Qualifications

- 2 experience in instructional design, educational technology or a related field

- Several years of experience as a team member

- Experience designing asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, flipped, and face-to-face Instruction

- Successful online and/or hybrid teaching experience In higher education

- Experience implementing a variety of rubrics and standards for quality assurance purposes

- Demonstrated success working with faculty members or other Instructional staff to improve teaching and learning

- Experience developing and facilitating professional development opportunities to faculty members

- Experience with learning analytics

- Presentation and/or publication in peer-reviewed contexts

- Video production management

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

- Knowledge of emerging technologies and innovative instructional approaches

- Effective use of a variety of educational technology tools (examples: Desire2Leam, Echo360, MS Teams, Adobe Creative Suite)

- Competency in web-related technologies including HTML.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Grade: 19

Salary: Minimum: $51,967/Annually to Midpoint: $60,705/Annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
